DH and I recently relocated to London. We're looking for parmesan (ideally a block, but the powdered kind would be okay, too) and can't seem to find any! Any ideas where we might be able to find parmesan (or something similar) cheese (preferably in Golders Green or NW London)?

Welcome to London!
You can buy the grated (powdered) parmesan from Haolam in Kosher Paradise on Finchley Road in Golders Green 020 8455 2454.

Baruchim habaim!

You can find block parmesan imported from Italy. I believe it's with
Milan hechsher. So much better than the grated sawdust IMHO.

As Kosher Kingdom has been closed for fire, your best bet would be
Kay's on Golders Green Road or Kosher Paradise. You can try Yarden
but they usually have fewer choices. Or B Kosher in Hendon.

Alternatively, you can order online from justkosher.co.uk
They do charge delivery fees but competitive price esp on meat and
maybe worth if you're ordering lots of bulky things.

Aside from Parmesan, we get so many different kinds of cheese in London
both made locally (Chevington) and lots of French/Israeli imports.
Supply can be sometimes erratic though--for example I couldn't find ricotta
cheese from Israel for several weeks not so long ago. You should
also get a copy of kosher food guides published by LBD (available at any
jewish bookstore, but be careful it gets updated every year and LBD website
posts revisions occasionally).

Hope you and your family are settling in nicely. Please let me know via PM
if you need other help/resources.

FYI, there is a Just Kosher on Vivian Avenue, if you want to avoid the delivery charge, or just for general shopping.

Thank you all for your helpful advice! DH is the foodie in our home (I didn't realize until he explained to me a few days ago that parmesan cheese is always Italian), and I'm sure he will appreciate the tips on where to shop, as well. (: We're living in the Maida Vale area, and mostly we find ourselves shopping at places where kosher cheeses aren't really available (but we do find ourselves in Golders Green at least once or twice a week).

Thank you, Mrs Bissli, for suggesting the kosher food guide. I picked up a copy when we were visiting London during the summer, and it somehow got lost during our move over here. We officially moved here from the States about a month ago (DH just entered a PhD program-- this is what brings us to London), and I'd forgotten all about it, so thanks for mentioning it!

Chag Sameach!!
