Is this normal?

I was with my newborn at the pediatrician today for a check up and while checking him he kissed him once on the back and then again on the head. I found it to be very weird especially for a man. Did anyone experince this. Should I be concerned???

I just think, go with your gut. That's what Hashem gave them to us for. It's most likely nothing, but go with your gut.

He is a well liked popular pediatrician who ppl. don't stop raving about. While I went with older son to a different doc. I decided to change to him. Should I maybe ask ppl. who reccommended me to him if he has done that to their kids? Or I'd just be making a big shtink for nothing? I cant keep changing doctors every month.

I always find myself kissing kids that I'm holding- be they mine or someone else's. It's like a natural reflex for me. But I'm a mom, and not a pediatrician. With that being said, like mimisinger put it so eloquently- it's probably nothing, but if you don't like his style- then go with your gut-find someone else.

infant - no
12 year old boy (or even 8 yer old boy), I would question.

Pediatricians are often very warm and loving people =) thats why they choose the specialty...seriously. I wouldnt think much of it with a little baby. Older kid, Id raise an eyebrow maybe, depending on the person. again though go with your gut.

octopus--some moms ARE pediatricians. What are they to do Wink??? some of them love other peoples kids too Smile and wanna squeeze and hug em just like everyone else.
Its a tough call and everyone has to do what is comfortable for them. But I really dont think its anything out of line. Would you feel as uncomf. if it were the nurse who had kissed your baby? or your babysitter? or the day care person? To this pediatrician, he is working in a child oriented world, and its all about keeping the kids happy and making them feel comfortable. Like I said before, if it were a 12 year old boy, Id have child services on speed dial just in case, but an infant, I really woundt worry.

My kids' pediatrician does that! DD hates it and I always remind the dr that she hates to be kissed and he respects that. He loves kids especially babies. He's always telling me how he waited 12 years for his first and she was the same way: don't hug me, don't kiss me. He says he can't help himself when a baby or toddler comes to him! he loves them!

Thanks for putting it in the right perspective. I wouldn't see anything wrong if it were a babysitter or day care person just that its a man I looked at as weird. You put me at ease.

My ped kisses kids when they are infants, then pats them on the head and puts his arm around them until they are a little older. BTW he is male.

My pediatrician also kisses the little ones. I always just thought wow - now that's an affectionate doc!
