I know the gemara in nezikin talks all about who is responsible to pay for something, if like your ox wandered into someones property and broke something, etc...
So on a similar vein:
If your kid (under bar mitzva age) breaks something in someone else's house, obviously you'd be required to pay for it.
The question is- if your kid was being watched by someone else, and broke someone's thing in their home, who is responsible to pay for damages- the parent, or the one responsible for watching the kid?

I learned you don't have to pay for something your child under bar mitzva breaks, and nor does he. (So it's not obviously)
But there's such a thing as being a mentch, lifnim mishuras hadin...
