Solids and (formula) bottles

do babies need the same amount of formula a day while starting solids- does their appetite increase and is filled by solids? or do they start 'dropping' bottle feeds? Right now DS is down to about 4-5 bottles a day, depending on if he wakes up hungry at night or not. Should I be giving him less bottle feeds and more solids as he wants or what?
