My ds 2 yrs. is starting to get a rotten tooth:( Crying He never goes to sleep with a bottle, and I brush his teeth frequently. What can it come from and is there anything to do to prevent it from getting worse? Its still pretty good (only grayish).

Was he premie? DD was a premie and when one of her teeth came in it was missing the enamel that normal teeth have. We took her to a specialist in pediatric dentistry (way OOT) and he told us what was going on. It had stumped other dentists. The tooth was yellowish. I think gray teeth are a different issue. I would get it checked out.

ask your dentist. it may not be decayed at all, but the enamel may be defective due to a fever or infection either in utero or after birth while the tooth was developing. If it's a baby tooth there's nothing to worry about, as it will fall out. If a permanent tooth comes in that way, it can be bonded or crowned for cosmetic reasons when ds reaches an age to care.

He was not a premie, he was actually overdue and weighed 9 lbs. at birth. He did not have it grayish when it came in (pretty early). I discovered it only yesterday, so it is a recent thing. Is there a way of saving it from gettin worse?

I think the only way of saving it from getting worse is going to a dentist. I have the same thing with my 5 year old, I discovered it when she was about 2 as well and I am taking care of it only now, but dont do that same mistake just go to a dentist as soon as you can.

sounds like it may have been banged and damaged the root. Be glad it's a baby tooth, but this is not something you can take care of at home. See a dentist.

I have the same problem but this is interested - I have twins a DS and DD. My DS has two brown teeth in the front and two visible cavaties on the lower set of back teeth. He used to drink lots of bottles including bedtime (it was a comforter addiciton that was hard to pull away from him). MY DD drank the same amount and she has a perfect set of teeth, no brown teeth and no visible cavaties. They both have dentist appt scheduled for July 8th so we shall wait and see.

Has anyone had experience of the dentist actually restoring the brown teeth to good color?
