I know of a Rayna. She is from argentina originally and she's sefardi. she doesn't have any other hebrew name even though she is FFB so in her case that is her jewish name.

I know someone with that name, but I think she spells it Raina. Her family is some kind of sephardic; they speak Ladino. It might be a Ladino name?

Reina/Reyna is definitely a Ladino name (means queen). It was imported into Yiddish countries and you find Yiddish speaking Reyna Esthers for example (the name is common in some chassiduyos).

There was a frum, Sephardi family from Mexico that rented a house near me for the summer...they had a daughter named Rayna. No idea if I'm spelling that right.

So it's the same as Malka? |
My DD Malka was named for a Regina...I know of at least two Raynas off the top of my head -- love the name.

I new a very nice Reina, with the name meaning "Malka", only in Sefardi.
Just be aware that people will always confuse the name with Rena/Rina.

This name is a Ladino name. Before the Second World War, it used to be a very common name among Sfaradim, at least in Europe. I had several Reinas (Reina or Rena - means queen, Malka) in my family.

My name is reish yud yud nun alef. But, it is not like "rain", more like "eye". Nevermind that my parents, I guess you can call it, totally Americanized it and I am called w/o any Yud making a sound- more like Donna, with an R...
I am named after my grandmother- chasidish and my father always said it was yiddish meaning Pure. But, obviously the other meanings are valid too.
