Do you only light a yahrzeit candle on Y'K if you have lost relatives? I.e. if I don't say yizkor, then do I not light a candle?

I light a candle to have a fire from before YK for havdala (which I learned one has to do to have fire for havdala for YK).

We light 2 candles - one in the main room and one in our bedroom - if we are guests somewhere then we don't light a main candle and either put a candle in our bedroom, or leave the door open a drop.

Please could you tell me the reason for this? Thanks

You need a 24 hour candle for havdalah.

I think the main candle is for havdalah and the candle in the bedroom is supposed to remind you to sleep seperately, keep harchakos, etc. When we are guests we just leave the door slightly open, because that is enough of a reminder.

Presumably if someone is anyway a niddah at that time then they wouldnt need the candle in the bedroom then. Thanks for all the info!
