I would treat different languages as different , even if alphabets overlap.

So, I would use either spelling depending on context. The Yiddish spelling in Yiddish or mixed Yiddish/Hebrew contexts, and the Hebrew spelling for Hebrew context.

But how do I know when I must use Yiddish/Ladino or Hebrew? I'm also not sure all Yiddish/Ladino names have a Hebrew spelling? Gosh I'm going nuts lol

But you wouldn't write "Hozay" in English, would you?

Not that I'm necessarily disagreeing with you. If I had a child whose name would be very confusing spelled in the traditional way, I may have done the same. I still spell Mendel with an ayin, though.

Anyone know how to pronounce Baljinderjit?

Not specifically that name but there are a lot of Indians in my area and I have taught many students with Indian names, I think I could give it a go. Most are fairly phonetic (I've had a couple of exceptions), the j is very soft, dj shj kind of sound.

Why don't you ask her or get someone new to ask and share it if it seems weird asking after all this time?
