We got a really good deal on flanken bones but had to buy in bulk (ended up being $5/lb!!!), and now I would like some recipes besides for cholent and soup. All the recipes I found here use ketchup but my dh hates the "vinegary" taste of cooked ketchup, so I need recipes without ketchup please.
TIA

What I do (and it's not a real recipe):
Put in crockpot with sliced mushrooms, barley, half beef broth and half water, salt and pepper to taste, and some thyme. Cook on low during the day and eat it at suppertime as mushroom barley beef soup. Very filling.
I've also made variations of the meat tzimmes recipe in the purple spice and spirit...I sear it with carrots, sweet potatoes, some potatoes, onion. Cover with some broth and stick it in the oven and cook for a couple hours, covered.

vegetable split pea flanken soup
use cranberry sauce, onion, garlic, salt
OldYoung's teriyaki wine steak
(I assume he doesn't like barbecue sauce either?)

I use onion and garlic instead of onion soup mix.
