I am a programmer working in not such a current language, but in a windows environment.
Is anyone here a programmer/works from home and could recommend what languages should I try to teach myself?
Will it be possible to look for programming jobs that are not full time?
Thank you.

Are you looking to freelance or work for a company at home?
AFAIK, PT jobs are hard to start off with - some places let you cut back after a few years, but these things are all mazel.
VB / VB.NET are probably good places to start with, that seems to be the default for a lot of smaller places, but it really depends on what you want to do...

What language are you currently working in, and what kinds of projects have you done / are you doing. That makes a difference, as you want to find something which leverages your existing skill set.

All good ideas, also, what about Ruby and/or Python? Basically, I would look to see what the usual requirements for the work you want are and start with the 'easiest'. I'm a tester (a job I love!) and I need Java for web application automation, DH is a C++/C# dev and there's plenty of work in the industry for both of us.
As for not full time, testing and QA can offer a different schedule, as can support. There is still a market for consultant websites so css/e-commerce and other web stuff might be a good move, also plenty of javascript skills are required, and people generally say it is the easiest thing to learn.

what languages do you currently know?
I'm a programmer and work freelance from home - but developed my own business.
I program in many of the web programming languages
