For me it is not about a meal being paid for. I feel that even when one of my children are sick, I am allowed to do something that I was planning on doing for myself. I would be different if it was C"vs a horrible illness. Sometimes a child could have fever for a weak, I feel that a parent can't cancel everything to be home with that child for a week. I feel that another family member or another caring adult can take care of my child for a few hours while I go to my friends simcha.

I think you have a point - but it depends who was with the sick kid during the day. If the mother was home with the sick kid during the day, then yes, I think a good caretaker could stay with the sick kid for a couple of hours. But if the kid was home sick and with a caretaker all day, then the mom should stay home now.

I wouldn't let my DD be your sitter.

I once had a situation where someone asked my DD to babysit without disclosing that the child was sick. That was the last time she babysat there.

I assume, when DD is asked to babysit, that the children are well. I don't want my DD catching other people's viruses, etc...
