I know it's not dishwasher safe, but if s/o wants it for Shabbos/Yom Tov only, does it hold up? Is anyone familiar with brands?

It would be same as silver plated. If you take very good care of it and if you washand dry each piece seperately (never let it air dry) and are really diligent about taking care of it then it will last you forever. But I could never take care of it like it needs to be so I'll stick with stainless steel.

its terrible the gold peels off so quickly.
I got it as a wedding gift after 8 months of just using it on shabbos it was a goner.
