I went on an outing with my toddler and thought I'd step into a store and get my DH a small gift for his birthday. It's a sports cap. I got it during the 9 days. Completely forgot that I can't purchase new clothes. Should I give it to him after Tisha b'av? Return it? Thoughts?

I don't really think a cap is clothes, but ask your rabbi, and if you feel really badly, return it and buy it again after 9 days.

you didn't do it intentionally ... by the time you return it - tisha b'av will be over ... just wait to give it to him

Bidieved, it's fine!
But don't give it to him until after the 10th of Av.
It's a minhag, not a halacha. You weren't over an aveira!

I don't think a cap is clothing. The bigger issue is that we don't give gifts during the 9 days. Save it and give it after.
