If they are all managing on that, why are so many people here unable to manage on $70k and up? Its time to start communities in Oklahoma or other low COL areas. And yes, we have to pay tuition but so do Catholics. |
I know people that pay around 53k in tuition alone.

Personally, my kosher, gluten free, legume free grocery bill is exactly the average for my family size, kosher or not.
I think it comes down to housing in expensive areas, unreasonable tuition (are Jewish teachers really being paid more than the Catholic teachers? The teachers are being paid less per hour than plumbers) and possibly unreasonable expectations of traveling, expensive clothes, cleaning help etc |
Not sure I understand your comparisons- plumbers can make a lot of money- it's a lucrative job for many. Nuns and priests don't really get paid- they are supported by the church and don't have families to support. The church subsidizes the other costs ( secular teachers, cost of building etc) so it's not comparable to the yeshiva set up.

Husband $58k
Me $74k
(both pre-tax)
We live in NY and have one kid, another on the way IYH. It seems like a lot of income for a small family but it really isn't. Right now we are able to save a bit but once the baby comes I have no idea how we will save.

Dh is a CPA working as a controller for a real estate company. His income truly comes from Hashem. He fell into this job when any other job with his qualifications would bring in a fraction of what he is currently making.

2 kids daycare full time. Student loans. Rent. Utilities. Food. Seasonal clothes (minimal). We live month to month. |
This makes me so nervous! I'm currently making 45k while husband is in school and does part time randomly making at most $5k a year and BH we are fine for now. We have no kids yet but $170k a year living month to month? That's scary! Not judging- I don't know what your expenses are but my husband and I together will probably make a little over $100k when he's finished with school. And I live in NY!

It's part of the field of industrial/organizational psychology. There's lots of info online about the field, but if I had to sum it up in two words it would be "workplace efficiency".

Mille- that's so cool! Do people actually listen to you?- my dh always complains how frustrating it is for him how management is often times so inefficient making it difficult for the employees to do their work!

For those wondering why frum ppl can't manage on relatively decent salaries and catholic ppl paying tuition can, you're forgetting abt things like a huge, expensive yt every few months. Summer camp. Tznius clothing. Wigs. Simchas. That's just a few examples. There is just so much abt religious Jewish life beyond the tuition, housing, and even kosher food thats expensive.

There are frum Israeli for families who dress less formally, make modest simchas and don't send their kids to summer camp. It's true there's a day less of yom tov, but otherwise, the religious commitment is the same. You are not talking about frum life per se, you're talking about frum life as lived in New York .
(I know, tuition is lower, but so are salaries.)
