What do people know of emotional therapy and how kids benefit from it? It has been suggested for my just-turned 15 yr old son but it is expensive privately and to get it covered by insurance would mean we have to pay to get him on a preferred insurance level and a 6 month wait.
Also, how do we decide which would work best for him? There seems to be many choices to choose from; horseback riding, swimming, drama, music, art. Is this truly helpful or a lot of mumbo jumbo??
At the same time, we were told that he may benefit from a low dose of Ritalin for ADD. Could one of these therapies help us avoid him having to take medication? He does not like the idea of taking pills to help him concentrate, he's worried it will make him lethargic, or depressed.

IMO, it's worth a try if you can avoid medicine. Once you get on the med rollercoaster, it's very hard to get off.
