Lexapro helped my severe anxiety, so I would assume it helps OCD by toning down anxiety level leading to compulsiveness. I would suggest therapy because OCD needs CBT IN conjunction with medication.

DH has a form of OCD (scrupulosity) and he takes Paxil, but really needs therapy (he's been to therapy and it helped, but every so often needs a refresher) to keep symptoms at bay.

Assuming this is for a child because it's in the children's health forum? OP have you have your child tested for pandas by a pandas-literate doctor? Children don't develop ocd without a biological cause. It would be a shame to try psychotropic drugs before you see if antibiotics and anti-inflammatories help.
