I am looking for ideas in places that I can reach from NYC without a car for a short (overnight) getaway for myself and college aged DD. Someplace pretty and relaxing, with something to do, but not frenzied. I am currently using a cane so needs to be somewhat accessible. Please give suggestions also for lodging. Thank you!

Path / metro north? To a town that had some specific atraction you like? Then you sleep at a cozzy bedroom like a best western that offers big jacuzzi in the room? You need to ask when reserving. You both go in with bathing suits and relax?

DC is fun. You could go to any of the numerous Smithsonian Museums for free.
The train takes ~3.5 hours.
