Yesterday I went out with my dd and we went to starbucks and used their bathroom. To use it, you have to have the code. First my dd used it and then I did, so she told me the code and she said the last thing to press is hashtag. I said, you mean the number sign ? Am I showing my age?
According to wikipedia it means number, pound, and/or hash.

In Israel, it's called "sulam/ sulamit" (ladder). How cute?
I call it number, pound, or hashtag depending on the situation.

There is a pound button. The number sign.
The term hashtag only has value in certain social media outlets.

In the UK it’s hash. Hashtag is for social media use.

I call it a sharp sign — it's musical notation. I’ve wondered why keyboards don’t have a flat sign.
As far as your poll choices go, it depends on the context.

The poll is what wikipedia listed. If you have something else, write that separately. As far as it being called hash and not hashtag, it does not mean people don't call it as such.

You don't want to know how many years I was sure it was called shulamit.
EDIT: I learned a while ago it was sulamit but never thought about why.
Thanks for sharing the shoresh. I don't know why I didn't get that myself lol.

I believe it was always called pound or a hash. Social media invented the use of tags with the key and so it became known as hashtag. Most young people use it more as a hashtag than as a hash or pound symbol so I am not surprised your DD called it a hashtag.
I call it a pound symbol or a hashtag, depending on the context.
If it's on a phone or code pad it's pound.
If it's using it on social media to tag someone or something - hashtag.
Didn't fill out the poll since there's no option for me.

It depends on context:
#1 = number 1
67248# = enter code, then pound (in a phone prompt)
#context = hashtag context (social media)

I almost always say hashtag. But I use pound or number when I'm feeling quirky
Also this is reminding me of a scene in "Olympus Has Fallen" where the guy is trying to key in a code to stop the disaster and they are telling him "hashtag" and he doesn't get it so someone tells him "shift 3"

I find the scene .... Note, this is from an action-thriller R-rated movie and the scene has an f-bomb

Pound sign. The number sign isn't slanted, I think. If someone says hashtag I'll know what they are talking about (recently), but I would never call it that.

Your poll should have listed hash and hash tag separately.
Hash is the word used in the UK to describe this symbol. Hashtag is a social media word.
I've always used 'hash', Hashtag has only been around for a few years AFAIK.

In my head, I call it a sharp.
IRL, I say pound sign, because that's how it's referred to on my phone.

Omg.. that reminds me of a very funny show called "the other just Choen" there's an answering machine and that's part of the message
He says something like "...press the pound key. The pound key is the number sign or the tic tac toe thingie located in the button right of you're telephone keypad. If you don't have a touch tone phone..."
