Anyone have experience with it? Is it a good substitute for self made royal icing?

Thanks. I'm just wondering, would it be the same icing for the outline and the fill in?

I don't know about this particular product, but you can probably just add a tiny bit of water to the icing to thin it, and use that to fill in your outline.
