How do I make this?
My lentils usually come out hard, and don't give the soup a thick consistency.
Anyone have a recipe and instructions? Tysm.! I heard there is a good one in Naomi Nachman book though I don't have that one

Red lentils (those tiny ones that cook into a yellow color soup) don't need a lot of time to cook. Canadamom has a great recipe.

Are you sure you don't mean split pea soup?

I think sometimes it just works and sometimes not.
I find if I boil it alone it breaks down better. And if it doesn’t break down it won’t ruin the soup. Or you can purée before adding to vegetables.
I just made from a brand new bag. Soaked 12 hrs. Boiled forever. It still never became perfectly smooth.
And sometimes you just boil 3 hours and it’s perfect.

This is easy and delicious.
Split Pea Soup
16 oz split peas
1 onion, diced
4-6 garlic cloves, crushed
2 stalks celery, sliced
4 carrots, diced
1 Tbsp. salt
pepper
8 cups water
Combine all ingredients in a pot. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and let simmer, on low flame for 1 1/2 hours. If you reheat this soup, you may need to add some water because it gets thicker.

I made a similar soup with green split peas, so It works too with yellow?

I always soak the lentils or split peas first for a couple of hours. I think it helps because I don’t get hard bits.. I blend the soup when done after cooking with the veg etc.

I like chunky soups so I don’t blend
I just find it frustrating when the peas sometimes don’t break down no matter what I do. (Pre-soak, pre-boil, boil for hours)
