Is there any tricks to getting oil and grime out of tzitzis strings? My ds has to use creams for a skin condition, and it inevitably gets on the strings. Between that and playing outside, they are greyish blackish within the first week. Any tips?

Cornstarch or fuller’s earth or talc or chalk rubbed into strings, let set few hours or overnight, shake off then rinse out or Vacuum away the powder, then wash with full strength detergent. Presoaking in oxyclean may help but read label to see if it’s safe on wool. The powders will absorb grease but not dirt. You can try scrubbing strings gently by hand but ground-in dirt is often permanent. Oxyclean removes stains, not dirt.

I would also try rubbing with a lot of shampoo - it's made for removing grease.
