A new study shows that a new mutations of the coronavirus, found more and more in the USA and in Europa, allows the virus to enter cells more easily and to become more infectious.

Quote:
Mutated coronavirus shows significant boost in infectivity

COVID-19-causing viral variant taking over in the United States and Europe now carries more functional, cell-binding spikes.

The real question is not how infectious the mutations are, rather how potent or dangerous the mutations are to people.

We don't really care how infectious the common cold is because it's potency is generally mild. OTOH Ebola, while dangerously potent is less infectious.

What changed in this mutation is just the mecanism to enter cells, which made it more efficient...
the rest remains unchanged.

so do the math: same effects overall, but easier access to cells...

Easier access to cells = quicker reproduction within the body...

I suppose that means: be more careful!

In Italy somehow it’s losing potency. That gives me hope.

However, the Coronavirus strain mostly found in Italy (type C) is not the one most commonly found in the USa and the rest of Europe (they have type B)

I hope the trump campaign employees who tested positive did not have this new version of the virus...

I suppose this effect is due to efforts to contain spread and to protect vulnerable populations, b'h
