Their apartment is right above ours and their windows are wide open. Should we keep our widows closed?

No. Don't be silly. Corona doesn't waft through your window and infect you.

I thought it can be transmitted through droplets in the air?

Um, so then why is everyone SDing and wearing masks? This is very misleading. Hospitals created negative pressure rooms for COVID19 patients for exactly that reason.
OP please contact a qualified medical professional to answer this question. Hatzlacha!

Yes, when they're standing in front of you talking etc.
Do you think they're spending their time spitting out the windows?
People have lost it.

No, I don't think that's a risk...

Yes, but you need a certain quantity of virus to get infected...
In the open air, those virus droplets dilute quickly, and then they are not relevant any more.
On the other hand, when you spend longer time in a closed space with an infected person and the air does not get changed (public transport, bus, workplace when not well ventilated, shul, choir rehearsal,), you will accumulate more and more viruses at each breath you take in, and this might get you infected over a certain period of time...

If you share ac or heating ducts that may be a risk to you but I wouldn't worry about opening the windows. Take zinc and vit c daily

But those droplets are being diluted in the air of the whole big world.
That's why many people say outdoors if you are more than 6 ft away from others - masks aren't necessary.
If that persona is within 6 ft. of you those droplets my land on you and your face.

Exactly. My husband and I share a bedroom and one of us got it and one of us didn’t. Antibodies confirmed that. Don’t worry about your upstairs neighbor and the window.

Op ask your doctor. No question is silly when it comes to covid.
Droplets drop down.
Were you higher it would not be an issue unless carried by plumbing, air-conditioning, pipes etc. There were cases of this transmission in other countries. Though hopefully statistically low risk. I never heard if they figured out how so many people on the cruise ships kept catching it even though ostensibly quarantined.
It probably is fine to open your windows; however, please check with your doctor for medical advice.
Hugs and hatzlocha
