Should I be concerned? My mother, my other daughters and I all got our first period when we were 12 years old.. when we went for my dd’s annual well visit, the Dr. checked her to make sure a piece of skin wasn’t preventing her from menstruating, which it wasn’t. She said if by 16 she still hasn’t, then time to go to an endocrinologist. Should I be concerned? I’m worried.. what could be wrong? Thanx!

Can't hurt to check it out. But normal range is between ages 9 & 16. Google it.
So she's still within range. I know girls who got their first period around ages 15/16.
But can't hurt to speak to a professional.

No. I'd check with a Dr at 17.

Is she under very under weight?
That delays puberty.

Also ask how things went by your husbands family! His sisters and mom!

We just went to her pediatrician who said if she doesn’t get her period my 16, then go to an endocrinologist. She’s thin, but the Dr. said that’s not a reason for her her to not get her period. She’s still at a healthy weight.. No way for me to find out about her aunt and grandmother from her fathers side.. Should I be nervous? Worried.. what could be wrong?

Why are you asking on Imamother?!
Your mother, yourself and your other daughters all got it by age 12. She is 15. You know that doesn't sound right, so who cares what our opinion is? You are the mom and realize that in YOUR family, this is ‘off’.
Of course everyone here will give ‘their’ stories...but they are not ‘yours’.
Obviously, make an appt with an endocronologist pronto. (No matter what ped says).
Chances are, all is fine. But of course it needs to be checked out asap.
Much hatzlacha that all turns out ok

Alarmist much? Family history can't always predict what happens in these cases.

My dd is a worrier in general.. I don’t think I need to worry her more by running to the endocrinologist if her pediatrician said she might still get it before she’s 16, and if by 16 she doesn’t, go then.. Why the “ pronto” scare?

I was that kid who didn't get my period until 16. I was thin but not underweight...
If you're scared then I'm sure your daughter realizes it. I would get it checked out just to calm you and your daughter down. My mom was scared but wouldn't say anything to me - I was terrified that I would never be able to have children.

In my family, (meaning myself, sisters and nieces), everyone had their periods by age 12, some as early as 9. But my girls (and I have quite a few bh) all had theirs very late, the earliest being 14 1/2, but mostly closer to 16. One daughter had hers when she was 17. She went to seminary the following year and stopped menstruating for a year. I was terribly nervous but my pediatrician checked her hormone levels and said she was fine. She finally got back her periods and got engaged a few weeks later. I was so worried. I took her to a different doctor who also checked her hormones and said she wil be fine. She became pregnant a month after her wedding, nursed her baby clean for a year and is now expecting her second! So I would advise you to have your daughter checked by a specialist, but do not fret!

Exactly this. There are two sets of genes at play. 15 is not terribly late. Better at 16 than age 9!

Girls in my family (myself sisters and nieces) all menstruating early, but my girls all had their periods later, closer to age 16. One of them at 17! I was a nervous wreck, but my pediatrician checked her hormones and said she was fine. She stopped menstruating the year she was in seminary and got back her periods a few weeks before becoming engaged. I took her to a specialist who again said her hormone levels were fine. Anyways she became pregnant right away. So please have your daughter checked by a specialist but do not fret!

9-16 is considered the range of normal. And your daughter gets 50% of her DNA from her father, it could be that his side is late bloomers. I had the opposite. I got my period at 11 and my mom thought something was wrong because she got hers at 16... Turns out all my dad's sisters got theirs at 10-11. I know you said you have no way of finding out, so this is an unknown for you. But it's a very likely factor.

In my family it ranges from age 11-14. I got it at age 14, really just some staining and nothing for 2 months until it became sort of regular but very far apart.
I have a relative who got her period very very heavily 3 or 4 times a year. Doctor said she's fine. Took her a year to get pregnant with her first. I think she's up to 7 by now.
It's so individual. Don't worry.

If you normally trust your pediatrician than I would take their advice on this. If they say it’s not a cause for concern yet and to give it more time than try to not worry about it until there’s something to worry about. See what happens and hope she gets it, and worst case scenario you take her to the specialist when she’s 16. But if your dr is telling you it’s not an issue right now then you should trust them. And if you don’t then I would look into finding a different dr that you do trust
