Who knows this one? I presume I learned it in my modern day school, as I don't think I've heard my Bais Yaakov attending granddaughters sing it. Also we only did the first verse...

I remember this one! I think my fourth or fifth grade class performed it at assembly complete with hand and arm motions. I can see that BY schools wouldn’t teach it. There’s nothing religious about it; it’s thoroughly secular. Which doesn’t make it tref as far as I’m concerned, I personally don’t feel that every. single. thing. coming out of my mouth has to be laden with religiosity, so I have no problem with this song, but many people disagree.
Most people usually know only the first stanza of most songs, BTW.
I didn’t even know that this song had further stanzas.

Yep- the first stanza only. I don't remember where I sang it, maybe in school. Not a BY, but yes a frum day school. I have vague memories of some performance with stamping feet every time סורה was sung.

Oh yes, definitely stamping! As I recall, putting foot forward and thrusting out with arm as well!

First grade. I only remember the first stanza, but first grade was quite a while ago. I agree with zaq that we used to sing songs which were religously neutral. I never thought about it at the time.

I know this one, and I think it might be better known in Israel.
A few years ago we had a family get together on Chanukah, and all the children were playing in the mamad. Suddenly they decided to switch off the lights and close the door, leading to almost complete darkness. My sister called to her oldest and asked what they were doing putting all the lights out. He stuck his head out of the door with an irritated expression, and announced that they had to make it dark in order to be מגרש החושך! They spent the next ten minutes marching round in the darkness, singing that song over and over again.
