If it is not permissible to evict a Jew because of non-payment of rent, what rational landlord would rent to a Jew? 🤷🏼♀️
Landlords almost always need money from rent to cover the expenses of the building AND for their own income.

I would start the eviction proceedings and start talking to rabbanim at the same time. Eviction takes a long time. And you can always stop with the eviction process at any time.

Anyway he owes us four thousand dollars in rent and currently he's not answering our calls because he traveled on his honeymoon. I get that weddings are expensive but I don't understand why he doesn't seem to try and save anything. He also traveled to New York before the wedding because he's hasidic. Before the wedding he even asked my husband for a thousand dollar loan so he could afford the ring, because the jeweler wouldn't give it to him otherwise. As things are, we've been paying for his electric and water too. I thought that rent is something one would pay first. Is that normal or are we being taken advantage of? |
You never know the reason for this so-called "honeymoon"

Totally.
And you never know the reason why a landlord might need the rent money.

I was going to say rent and food. Certainly wasn't going to say expensive ring and honeymoon. I agree it's time to let them know, if payment is not made asap you will start the eviction process. He is immature and needs to learn. Maybe the hard way.

Huh? I'm a landlord (we own and live in a two family home.) We need the rent to pay for our life. It's one of our expected sources of income. Not optional. Wether it's fir mortgage, tuition, savings or vacation...who the heck cares. It's the landlord's income. Period.

Take care of this now before he owes 18 months rent and disappears.
