I am very very distraught over this...
My 5 yr old had strep 3 times in the past 3 months, the most recent time a couple of weeks ago.
He recently started stuttering terribly and it is so disturbing to see.
Like "m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-mommy". Really bad.
His behavior also has been awful, intense rages, really difficult...
Where do I turn? what do I do?
I took him to the pediatrician for a throat culture because I suspect he may have strep again, but it was negative. The pediatrician doesn't treat pandas.
Now what? Has anyone actually seen success treating pandas?
Monsey area.

Answering as an SLP so I’m not too familiar with the pandas angle. Has this happened suddenly? Did he go through any sort of trauma? Or change in life circumstances lately?

I was going to say the same thing as the previous poster. No need to jump to a self-diagnosed medical condition. Look first at the life happenings.
My child, for instance, started stuttering when I switched him to a new playgroup. It was a traumatic experience for him, but the stutter lifted after a week or two.
Did something recently change in your child's life? Investigate. You might find the answer is emotional and not medical.

I have seen kids get better when treated for pandas. You need to find a dr. That will give you long term antibiotics. Dr. Shulman's pa or np took over her practice and she is a good starting point.

You need a pandas specialist. My child’s stutter and rages and many other symptoms when away with long term antibiotics. Still comes back when dc has strep.

Yes I've seen success treating pandas. Thanks to a poster on this site who directed me to pursue that diagnosis. Extreme rage, no suttering for us but lots of separation anxiety and ocd.

Who is the doctor and what was the treatment?

Nope. No trauma or anything.

How long have you been doing this?
Does it cost a fortune?
Can you elaborate more on treatment and effectiveness?
Thank you!

As a child therapist, when people come to me with a child with sudden behavior changes, I always send them first for a complete medical evaluation before I can work with them.

BH! This should be universal! There's such a disconnect in our world between the brain and body. Everyone forgets that the brain is an actual organ of the body (that can also get inflamed etc)
Yes, I'm a PANS mom.
