After too many stories of tragedies RL, we got smart timers and only have the hot plate on for a couple hours before the meal and goes off right after. Never burners on for YT. Who wants to be a news article and chesed campaign RL?

For Shabbos, if you leave your hot plate on a timer just know that liquids cant be left on the hot plate when its off because it will cool then reheat (cook) when its on. Bishul issues. Ask your LOR.

Yes. This is true. So for yom tov, we use a timer for the Plata. For shabbos, I keep it on straight 24 hours because we like to keep the soup on all shabbos and can't halachically use a timer in that situation.

Can someone walk me through how this works practically?

I need the timer for a few hours before each meal on YT, but the entire night on Shabbos.

I only have a 24 hr timer that you manually push. Can I adjust it on YT?

We prefer a 24 hour timer. Let's say we set the timer to go on every day at 10am and off every day at 2pm. Then on again at 8pm and off again at 12am.
On Friday, we make sure to remove the off pins at ten (or at least before two) so that it continues on for all of shabbos (but the other days it was just on for 4 hours at a time).

Many rabbanim hold that you can extend a timer once it's on. Meaning if it's supposed to go on from 10-12, at 10:30 you can adjust it to go past 12.

We do this a lot with the ac.

Ask your rav, I know some hold that you’re allowed to.

Please get a certified one by a safety group of some sort. Not anything made in China without safety.
