8yo DS recently had strep, diagnosed by a rapid strep test. He took amoxycillin for 10 days, final dose being last Sunday morning. On Tuesday he was complaining of a sore throat again but didn't have a fever and felt otherwise well.

What's the chance that the strep returned? The doctor said on the phone it must be laryngitis as the strep would not come back that quickly, but his throat looks very red.

He didn't miss a dose, and I sanitised all the cups, plates and cutlery he used and replaced his toothbrush etc.

You can have strep with no fever. And some people need stronger antibiotics so I don’t think it returned I think it’s possible it never went away. I would go back for another culture and get stronger antibiotics

I also thought that was the case.

But is it likely that it came back 2 days after stopping the antibiotic?

It is unlikely but definitely possible.
Perhaps he has another type of virus? Often a sore throat that isn’t strep turns into a cold.
If he did not break out with a cold and his throat is still hurting you should take him for another culture.
