Has anyone's husband or self made partner in their smaller firm and can talk me through the process? How long did it take?
I am looking to get a better understanding of partner track in a lawyer setting. My DH has been with his small firm, less than 10 attorneys, for 7 years and I am wondering if he should stick it out for the long haul. What would incentivize the firm to want to share profits with him.

He needs to speak to a partner concerning the realistic changes of his being made a partner. Most law firms would have some discussion at this point regarding what lays ahead.
Lawyers become partners because they are profitable to the firm.
In a relatively small firm, this would mean bringing in clients as well as having an expertise that is profitable for the firm.
I don't think smaller firms have the same model as the really large firms where you leave if you aren't made partner because there traditionally were no permanent associates who were salaried.
Keep in mind that there are all kinds of "partnerships"
