As an abuse victim I've noticed that the most abusive teachers are the ones considered the best in the feild.

I'm sorry for your experience. At the same time, I really don't agree with this. We have all been students, and almost everyone can think back to some of their teachers as being amazing, and at the same time kind, caring compassionate. I think the abusive ones are few and far between, bH.
The teachers who are the best in the field are by and large considered as such because they are exemplary people as well.
