My baby was born with a birthmark. It's not very dark and it's in an inconspicuous spot. But it started growing hair and it makes me nauseous. Is there any way to stop the hair growth without surgically removing it? Or any other advice?

Don't do anything at all to it, no cutting the hair, nothing. Ask the doctor. Maybe it will be coming off surgically.

My Dr said as long as its not getting darker, it's fine. But it's getting bigger and hairier. If we remove it surgically, that would be only for cosmetic purposes and Im not sure I want to do that. If it was just the mark, that would be fine, but the hair is gross.

I understand that its gross. I have one that grows too and I just trim it regularly. Funny thing is that I was told that if a mole/birthmark grows hair it's a good sign. It means the skin and tissue are healthy, non cancerous. If it stops growing, then that's the time to worry

Very inconspicuous spot that will always be covered.

So you cut the hair? Im afraid the more I cut it, the more it will grow back.

How old is the baby? I would go to a dermatologist and ask what can be done.

You could wait until your child is old enough to decide what they want to do. But first go to dermatologist to make sure its fine

I'm not concerned about the safety of it. I trust my pediatrician 100%. He's very much an alarmist and if he had even .1% thought that it's not ok, he would send me to a specialist.

You really only have 2 choices to not stay status quo.
Trim the hairs or remove the mole. Neither is a big deal, speaking from experience.

Please remove the mole!! Speaking as someone who wished her mother took care of cosmetic work when she was younger!

Uh SOMEBODY is going to see it SOMEDAY, so I would have it off. And tell them to take a 'good margin.'
We also don't need you having icky feelings about your child and you can't help it, you do. Anybody would. Off it goes.

I had Electrolysis done on hair growing out of a birthmark
They made me check first with a dermatologist that it was safe to do
It is a permanent solution

My daughter (6) has a tiny bump (not visible unless you look very closely) on the bridge of her nose. The catch is that it grows a few dark hairs. We tried not to make a big deal. But when she was 4 she started complaining that people ask her about it and she wants it gone. We can't do anything about the bump. The doctor said when she's older we can do electrolysis. For now we go every 2-3 months (when she complains) to get it waxed.

I have hair growing from a mole. I use an electric trimmer to get rid of the hair every few days. I plan to get the mole removed someday when I have the time and money and hope that’ll stop the hair but it sounds like electrolysis might be needed too.

She's not even 2 yet, so electrolysis is not an option at this point. Ill speak to myself about having it removed.
