How much did it cost to build a new construction house? How did you finance it- did you have a mortgage left on your current home ?

We just finished a very basic 4k sf house and it cost 850k. We got a loan for more than that which paid down most of the first mortgage. We had to pay a chunk on our own to completely pay up the first mortgage and then pay the difference for what was needed for construction.

We are building now for $200/Sq foot. Our current home value has risen a lot so we have a lot of equity we can tap into.
