We have a big chanuka party in our shul on sunday. I called the chef this morning to check everything was ok, and I found out he is in hospital. he fell off his bike and broke some ribs, and an arm. bh he'll be fine, but not for sunday!

Plus, some a+c supplies I ordered never arrived...the company messed up the order. So I need to think of a replacement a+c and buy the supplies.

Intsead of cooking I'm trying to find a replacement cook. Whoever I get I'll probably have to end up doing most of it myself. And the chef was going to do all the shopping today...I have to do that now. Thank goodness for online supermarkets.

I need a holiday. Crying

Raisin, I feel for you!
We are running around now because the bulbs in the public menoras are not working, and the permit from the city for the party on Tuesday is not finalized, and I have a high fever, and we have a million guests this Shabbos, and the menoras and candles we sent to Jews in another city under our "jurisdiction" just arrived back here! On Erev Chanuka! So now they have no menoras or candles there!
And now my baby is crying to nurse and I have a splitting headache, and my husband wants me to help him with vocabulary for his speech...

Raisin and BandCM I feel for you!! At least one good thing came out of your post, you made me feel alot better about what is not going wrong over here, since BH this time things seem to be chugging along smoothly BH BH BH KAH! The only thing "wrong" is how busy we have been - I watch how busy my husband is and wonder how I could go about turning him into 5 people to do all the work.

We were at a specialist Dr. appt for him on Friday (worst day in the world, but he needed the appt and took what he could get) and his phone is going crazy the whole time, and it's not random calls he could easily ignore, it's the Premier's office calling for details for the function for the Premier's message (Premier = Governor) and the Lord Mayor's office calling about the mayor going up in the Cherry Picker to light the Shamash, and can he please fill out and return some protocol form via email ASAP, I couldn't decide if it was funny or embarrasing that he could barely get a word in edgewise to the Dr. without his phone ringing, chirping, vibrating, or flashing (it's a blackberry, so even on silent, it is popping up with emails as well, LOL.)

My biggest worry is that I will go into labour while we have our big function tomorrow (Sunday), we have about 15 politicians coming, brand new giant Menorah, brand new location in the middle of the city, and although my husband is officially adult education and not Peulos, the Shliach we work for will still be there and knows what's meant to happen when, but this function my husband has arranged basically from top to toe - not a good idea if he dissappears! I was officially due on Thursday, so I will be three days over, but I'm counting on the fact that Gemara due date is a few days later than Dr. due date, so while I wish this baby was OUT already, I am actually hoping to hang in there until tomorrow night at least.

I just want to reassure you guys that whatever happens at your function and no matter what you think of it in comparison to what you planned, even if you think "it was a total flop", I guarantee you that Yidden will be touched with the light of Chanukah, and that is the goal, after all! It will all pull together somehow, in whatever way it ends up happening. Like I used to tell my father when I was a teen and he was stressing about the house being ready for Pesach, "Ta, come Seder night, everyone is gonna sit down at the table and drink the Kosos and eat the Matza, regardless of whether they stress for two weeks beforehand or not."

So guys, just take a deep breath and remember that you have the Koach HaMeShalayach with you!!! Tracht Gut Vet Zayn Gut!!

well, after shabbos my husband just discovered his car went flat! And we were "babysitting" a student who had an exam scheduled for today, and she needed to be taken to the university...so dh had to take her in a taxi.

The good news is I found a bunch of helpers to help cook...bad news I have to be on top making sure everything is going ok.

Hatzlachah, Raisin and everyone else! If you remember, about nine months ago I was stressing about a Shabbaton I had to run when my husband was sick. B"h, Hashem helped and everything worked out Ok, I'm sure it will work out for you, too! Take some time off for yourselves whenever you get a chance.

Oh hugs...here too - lots and lots of stress! Well, I guess not everything, but it sure feels that way!
Until Wednesday, we didn't know if we were going to have a Public Menorah (BIG mess up with the local shuls), so couldn't figure out what night to do our public Menorah, and which night to do our Chanukah party. And we're doing a Kids party with local shul on Sunday anyway. And then we got permission on Thursday to have a Menorah in the Mall, so had to fill in all the paperwork, faxed it, and found out at 7pm that it never went through. Frantically called the Mall, held on for forever, said they'd call back. Spoke to someone else, said it's ok to come, but fax the stuff first. But we don't have a fax machine at home (faxed from another Chabad House), and I teach Hebrew reading on Thursday night, then DH had a shiur after. So we got someone else to take the papers home from the shiur, but that didn't work either. So had to wait to get the papers back Friday morning, and the call the Mall and explain why the papers weren't there, and find out what time to come, but our contact wasn't answering the phone....
Meanwhile calling everyone to let them know about Monday night lighting and Thursday night party, because it's too late to send anything by mail, so have to make personal phone calls.
And all of a sudden it was 3:25, and Shabbos starts 3:33 and I havent had a shower yet, and DH needs to light Menorah...
All part of the fun, I guess, though why we need the extra stress I'll never understand. Good Luck with it all!

And I thought I was over the hill... embarrassed but after reading about the projects you guys are so involved in, and what hardships you've been experiencing, all I can say is; "YOU ARE TRUE HERO'S!!"

Oh Raisin, after all you've gone through, you sure deserve a pleasant and relaxing holiday (vacation), after all..

Bandcm, I hope you feel better, and your fever is down by now. I can very well imagine how hurt and disappointed you felt about the returned Menorahs. Sad It wouldn't surprise me if your fever was brought on from so much 'stress'..
Hope you feel better.

Toastbagel, I myself, almost went into labor, while reading your post.. and I am not even pregnant!!
I sure hope that you and your DH will enjoy the function.. that is, if you won't be at the Hospital instead.. LOL
and BTW, I like your Positive attitude..

Happy Chanukah everyone

OK BH my fever is down, Shabbos is over, there was enough food for everyone, Hebrew school is prepared for tomorrow, the permit arrived, my husband ran out 45 minutes before Shabbos to forward the menoras to the correct address (I hope they get them this time!), I purposely went to shul late to miss my husband's speech (as I do when it is not properly prepard, because it is hard to resist the urge to prompt), and now he is gone to sort out the public menoras - there's a fault with the wiring.
But we won't relax until Tuesday night, after the party - Raisin, you're lucky yours is tomorrow! I hope all gos well.

we're rooting for all of you shluchos form the sidelines. and remember - although I'm sure it'll all turn out great - it's not quantity that counts but doing the best you can, which you so obviously are.

(think of all the stories about how one attendant at a shiur changed the lives of her families and of all her neighbors, etc.)

I'm reading this only now and I can only tell you my heart goes to you!!! (all of you! Smile)
I can only begin to imagine the stress...
Hope everything turned out/ will turn out well!
I'm trying to think of something uplifiting or encouraging to tell you (like take things with humor, people will enjoy the warmth and the inspiration - not the food, or whatever...) but I know this would not have helped my stress at all...
So just hugs from me, from an understanding sister Smile
