Title says it all. What can I do? Any idea what the problem might be before I shell out money for a technician. Thanks.

Maybe there's a safety pin or other small object stuck in it. We had that once. Make sure not to put a cd in- it will get killed.

Alas, there's nothing in the drive. The drive itself is not noisy, it's only when I insert a CD. The CD works okay, but the noise emanating from the drive sounds like an oncoming truck. Any more ideas?

check if your cds are scratched when you pull them out. there might be something underneath the tray inside the drive. if there is, it should leave a mark on your cd.
