It's so easy to forget about the dangers of driveways as we walk down the block. Cars back out on a regular basis, and they can see if there is a small child standing behind their car. My ds was once almost hit by a car that was backing out of a driveway as he walked by. I screamed, and the car stopped, B"H. A little girl in Lakewood was not as lucky yesterday. Her Levaya was last night. She was 2 years old. She was walking a few paces behind her father, so the driver of a car in a driveway saw the father pass, couldn't see the kid, and thought the coast was clear.
I am in no way blaming anybody Chas V'Sholom. The kid was on the sidewalk, where people typically assume kids will be safe from traffic. But please, remember that driveways aren't safe for kids.
