I find shaitels boring. Be they short or long, synthetic or human hair, straight or curly, they are boring, even the most beautiful ones. I would like to add a splash of color to my shaitel, a strand, highlights or something. I love color but nobody adds color to their shaitels besides subdued highlights and I don't want to stick out. Sad

I had a cool synthetic wig that was red in front, brown in back. it was very different, but I really enjoyed wearing it. go for it. get something cheap so you don't regret trying it, but do wear it and see if you like the look.

I bought two hat falls and wear different hats all the time. I have everything - baseball hats, military style caps, berets, beanies, bucket hats, even a bowler hat that I love to wear. The more interesting the look, the more compliments I get. Smile

I wish I could do that. I get terrible headaches when I wear hats/bands. That would certainly liven things up!

That's a good idea. The most expensive shaitel I ever bought was probably around $50. I think buying expensive shaitels is insane and ridiculous. There are some really nice cheap ones nowadays. They somehow also look more natural because the frum ones often have too much hair IMO. I once tried one of those frum shaitels and felt like I was wearing a helmet! I however think that if women want to spend thousands on shaitels (and they are not starving their kids in order to do so), they should have the right to. To each his own.

What about the ombre or reverse ombre look? I've seen it on a few advertised wigs and some look really nice.

I've seen ombre', bleach-blonde, serious highlights and subtle low-lights in wigs. I've seen purple-tinged hair, maroon-red, and skunk-streaked wigs. I've even seen a young girl with grey hair. Anything but boring.
The only thing I haven't seen yet is a good ponytail in a wig.

I love purple! What type of community do you live in?

This is why I save my sheitels for events where I'm in a community that expects it.

99.9% of the time I am wearing something from my HUGE collections of scarves, in all kinds of fun color combinations, twists, and sparkly pins to accent. I'm way too much of an accessory diva to stick to just one style or color. Lady

That's really cool but a bit wild for me. I don't want such a drastic change. Who is this shaitel macher?

Chava Sara Siebzener in Chicago. In real life, the color was a bit subtler and you could see the natural-colored hair mixed in with the colors much more clearly.

Not my sheitel, LOL! I am super boring

At beauty supply stores. It's where I get my boring shaitels. The customers are mainly African-American ladies, so the colors are generally more suitable for dark haired women, which is perfect for me. In any case, it's worth checking it out!

Well, you're sounding more upbeat here! Very Happy
But I understand why ombre might not be an option. Your multi-hued options might still be a little too much. I'd go with Maya's suggestion, and enjoy the variety that I hope you can get.

They sell colored hair extensions which you clip into your hair.

Would something like that work for you. You can go as crazy as you want. They even have very thin gold ones that have a very subtle sparkle effect.

Not sure I understand - when you say color do you mean: blue, purple or natural colored, but lots of highlights - orange, red, blondes. I see that being done a lot with loud highlights, rooted (not so much anymore) and ombre.

It seems highlights are really in nowadays. Look around for a sheitlemacher that specialises in them and see what she can do for your sheitle.
