He is helping a divorced woman and her kids from Israel and they don't have sheiches with the dad so the dad called and made the allegations- this is what someone told me. I didn't investigate though so don't know

I also heard it's not true & made up.
We don't have to believe everything we hear.

Do the police really arrest someone based on hearsay? Serious question.

Yes. It's his word vs her word in such cases. No evidence many times. Anyone can make up stories. Sometimes the one that is more convincing wins. I know such a case personally.

Serious answer. No, they don't. They conduct an investigation before an arrest is made.
Are they always right? Of course not. Are there errors and corruption and prejudice? You betcha. Do I know if this guy is guilty? No.
But if you're asking me to lay odds as to whether to believe the police or the inevitable "I heard he's innocent ...," I'll go with the police.

I'd think they're especially cautious before arresting someone who already has ties to the police.
I think we're long overdue for an all-women reboot of people in positions of power.

That's as unfair as no women in power.
We need Stabler and Bensen.

Unfortunately when it comes to rape allegations they don't always necessarily look for evidence or proof if the victim has a strong case.

If there's neither evidence or proof, what makes a case a strong one?

No worry ladies, we still have shmira. Personally, I tried calling Shomrim on a situation Shomrim said sorry can't help you so I called shmira who were there in a minute. I'm not affiliated with any members from any of them. Just my personal experiences.
