Tempest in a teapot. I identify as Israeli-American, Jewish, Ashkenazic, of Lithuanian descent...I could be part Mongolian if my eyes are any indication, but lacking any documentary evidence or tradition that says so, I don't say so. Because white people have a history that's not all that pro-Jewish, that means I'm not white? Name one race that has a purely pro-Jewish history? Why should I care to identify with non-Jewish Middle-Eastern nations who are every bit as inimical to my people as Europeans?

In any event, I have never thought of Middle Easterners as non-white.

This article keeps going back to Jews being Levantine, not white, but Levantine and Middle Eastern would also be classified as white, at least in the US.

Yes, Rome was responsible for the churban. But as the Ponovezher Rav said under Titus's Arch, where is Rome today and where are we? It's not the same Rome. Believe me, I'm not glorifying it. Not enough time has passed to say it's not the same Europe as the Holocaust. But to say that my family came from Europe and that explains my customs, our food likes, other deeper influences? (E.g. the mussar movement, chassidus, etc.) I think I have to read the article carefully, but not now, it's erev Shabbos.

Indeed.
I thought it was going to be about a newly-discovered genetic disorder.
