My son (almost 3 years old) cries every single time I put him on long pants and long sleeves. he cries that it itches him, even if the outfit is 100% cotton..his skin doesn't look dry or irritated... is it a sensory issue? I'm desperate... any advice would really help

Can be sensory related. Is the clothing tight fitted? Maybe something looser would work for him.

Try a different laundry detergent and fabric softener without perfumes or dyes. Or, try 100% organic cotton clothing. Or, see an allergist.

Sounds sensory. If it was the detergent or another allergy short sleeve shirts would also bother him.

Even if the fabric was fine, and the washing powder was fine, it could be the seams that are bothering him. Has he been wearing leggings or sweat pants up until now? If you are trying to get him to wear Shabbos pants, that will be a big change.
I wish you lots of luck, it's very frustrating. Something he'll try on in the store will be OK, but as soon as you get home he may find it intolerable.
OT can help a lot with sensory integration.
