Anyone have any good nicknames for chaim?
I don’t like the “CH” aspect because it’s hard for some people to pronounce. Anyone have any nickname ideas without the “CH”?

Haimy- my husband says it too silly cuz of Haimy Himelstein LOL

Hymie.

But I don't think you like that.

It's an anti-semitic slur. Jesse Jackson called NY "Hymie-Town"

Is he going to have an English name? If so, maybe you could call him that. Unless nobody else in the family uses one, in which case, calling out, "Yossi, Pinchas, Dovid, Callan! Time to go!" would sound weird.

Victor. A lot of people named Chaim are called Victor in my community. I’m not sure if that’s just in my community though…

Really no nickname without the ch

Ive heard Chaimy and Chaim’l

Both with the ch

Also, why dont you want the ch sound in the first place?

If its because it wont be able to be pronounced in the secular world, who cares? That is not his life or world.

Everyone uses their own cultural names and do not give a hoot what “the world thinks” nor do they care if can be pronounced…and so do we B”H!

Who cares if its mispronounced at the occasional doc or office? How will that affect his life in any negative way? (Answer: it wont)

And if he winds up in a secular workplace, he can always make up a secular name to use like so many do.

Embrace a beautiful name and much nachas.

My child Chaya’s legal name is Chaya. People really make an effort. If people can pronounce Rajagopalan and Minakshi and Baljinderjit, they can stretch a little to pronounce my kid’s name.

I feel like I'd call a chaim "homie", lol. not a formal nickname for school, young friends, but a silly name I'd use for kid/nephew/etc

I'm also the aunt who calls a secular girl niece charlie "chuck" like charlie brown, so 🤷‍♀️

Chaim is an awesome name!
At doctor appointments they’ll call him “kayim”-hasn’t prevented us from seeing the doctor every time!

Victor, Harry, Henri, are the typical ones but are not nicknames.

Initials work, I like that idea too.

Revolutionary idea but why does Chaim need a nickname?

It is short enough to remain what it is.
