My teenage son gets nauseous after every fast from dehydration. Is there any trick to rehydrating without triggering the nausea? He often throws up as well.
He’s feeling like he’s going to throw up any minute and I feel so helpless. He barely drank or ate anything yet even. And the fast was over for 2 hours!

Any ideas?

He needs to figure out what he can eat that won't make him throw up.
For me it was a hot coffee with small sips and some sort of carb.
I would then wait about an hour or two before I eat a more normal meal.

To barely eat tonight.
Drink electrolyte drink in small sips from straw and eat one cracker

Suck on ice cubes. It hydrates fast and the body doesn't react to it because it's a very slow drip.

Try sucking on Powerade freeze pops to break the fast, do it very slowly, like 1 every 15 minutes, and only after half hour/ hour eat a couple crackers or something light .if I eat and drink right away it always causes me to throw up.

For me, it was sipping a hot chamomile tea very slowly, and then another one not so slowly. A few hours later.... after sleeping 3-5 hours ate some pretzels just not to wake up in the morning faaaaamished. But the day after the fast, I drank and ate very often.

2 fasts later, what helped me immensely not feeling that way was drinking the day before the fast 4 cups of homemade fruit smoothies (1 morning, 1 midday, 1 first sueda, 1 suedas hamafsekes). of course, drinking a lot of water a week before the fast, and eating more food than usual.

When breaking the fast, I now drink a cup of water and another cup of smoothie.

Thank you all for your quick relies!
He did throw up and I’m having him sip a tea slowly now.
He really feels awful.

It’s the blood sugar fluctuations. I would try small sips of Gatorade which will restore the salt and sugar that his body needs. He doesn’t need food if he doesn’t feel up to it but he needs to drink.

My son can't keep anything down but grilled cheese when he's vomiting 🤷‍♀️
