Thinking of going to the Bronx zoo on Wednesday. I heard that they block off many animal exhibits on Wed.
I understand that you don't get any of the extras on the free day, but do they really limit the actual animal exhibits? Anyone know which ones?

They used to still charge for the gorilla exhibit as there is always an extra charge. Otherwise it's a really large zoo so it's worth it even if some buildings are closed. I don't think they intentionally block anything rather they may not open everything.

I think you can pay extra for the stuff you always pay extra for.
So admission to the zoo is free, but not all exhibits are free.
Get the difference?

Right so I understand that there are "extras" like rides etc.
But does that include standard animal exhibits?
Like lions, tigers, elephants, etc?

Many animals are included in the free admission but a lot of the animals are only available in the special exhibits. It’s been this way a long time they don’t take anything new away for Wednesdays.
Gorillas are extra, elephants are only on the monorail so also extra, petting zoo is extra I don’t remember what else but it should be on the website.

Also evidently Wednesday is a "maintenance" day so not all of the "regular" animals may be out.
I think you can pay $18.00 to upgrade and have access to all of the exhibits.
Whether that is worth it to you really depends.
From what I have read, the free Wednesdays can be incredibly crowded.

*Tickets for Wednesday are sold the Monday of that week at 5:00. I don't think you can just show up Wednesday anymore.
