Here's a great Web site:
http://www.frumcleveland.org/

It has lists of all the kosher establishments, schools, shuls, etc.

We really love Cleveland. It's a very warm, heimish community. We moved from a very small frum community, so we feel like we are really innundated with choices. If you're from New York or LA, you would have a different experience, I'm sure.

In terms of the neighborhoods, there are a few choices.

Cleveland Heights is the older neighborhood. The people there are much more black hat/yeshivish. There is one Lubavitch shul in Cleveland Heights. The homes are most affordable here.

University Heights is a little newer. A lot of the businesses are here. (It's just a few miles from Cleveland Heights. There is certainly a yeshivish group here, but you'll see a lot more MO influences as well. The houses are slightly more expensive than Cleveland Heights.

There is also Beachwood, which I don't know too much about that neighborhood. The houses are much more expensive and you have less of a choice on shuls.

There is also Wickliffe, which is by Telshe Yeshiva. I know almost nothing about that community, so maybe someone else could help you.

Hi,

I live in University Heights now, but also lived in Cleveland Heights for 6 years. Cleveland Heights is IMHO, very warm, very friendly and very yeshivish. If you aren't 100% yeshivish, you probably would feel uncomfortable. University Heights is a mix - just on my block there's a MO family, 3 "middle of the road" families (2 w/o television, 1 w/television), and one chasidic family. To me, that's a plus. BTW, the MO husband has a regular chavrusa with the chasidic husband - that's the kind of neighborhood it is. :-) It is more expensive - houses in Cleveland Heights run b/n $125,000 for a fixer-upper or for a house on a "not quite so Jewish" street to in the low $200's for the most desirable street. I'd say average is probably about $170k. In University Heights it is more expensive - I'd say the average is more like $200-225k, although there are certainly houses available for less. I do think that you get a nicer house in University Heights - they're usually newer and in better repair. Beachwood is nice, but definitely more MO and much more expensive (many $300k+ houses).

BTW, I haven't sold my Cleveland Heights house yet, so if you think you might be interested in renting it for a while to see if you like the neighborhood, please PM me.

I'm pretty sure it is in Cleveland Heights. I have the contact names and telephone numbers for Bikur Cholim for "out of town patients and their families coming to Cleveland for medical attention" . I don't want to post them on a website, but if you PM me, I'll email them to you.

I just wanted to say that we are not yeshivish, live in Cleveland Heights, and have never felt anything but warmth and acceptance from this community. I do agree that if you are more toward the modern end, e.g., you don't cover your hair all the time or all the way, you might feel uncomfortable.
