There's no one at our Vaad who can get me this info in a timely manner, and national orgs won't comment on others' hechshers. All I know is it doesn't happen to be on the list of always accepted hechsers our local Vaad gives, but that doesn't mean it isn't fine, it might just be that it's fairly uncommon so it escapes their notice. Basically, it's a capitol letter "K" with an underline. Here is the info on who grants it:
Oregon
Rabbi Yonah H. Geller, Congregation Shaarei Torah, 920 NW 25th Avenue, Portland, OR 97210. (503) 226-6131; Fax: (503) 226-0241.

I don't know anything about this rabbi or shul, though. Many of the products are ones our Vaad says don't even need supervision, but some do so I need to know if they're okay. Anyone from that part of the world or who got an answer on investigating this themselves? Help!

Thanks, but as I said above I know who is giving the supervision; what I don't know is if it is generally accepted as reliable.

Most of the stuff that hechsher is on doesn't need a hechsher (grains and flours).

ETA- WHOOPs. See that you made that point already. I'll see what I can find out.

my aunt used to live in OR. I'll try to ask her.(Btw, just b/c one person holds by it, doesn't mean another does. Best to ask your rabbi if he knows of it)

A mashgiach from the CRC says it is not recommended.

Chicago Rabbinical Council. Their hechsher is the crc in a triangle.

"No good
except maybe on water
or canned air"
(and if you want more info. on my brother you can PM me)

Thanks. Sigh. And they had such a nice looking gfcf brownie mix. I guess it's a good things our Vaad says the plain flours don't need a hechsher anyway. Then there's the Ener-g foods "breads" with only rice flours but marked Pas Yisroel. At least the hechsher is good on those, but I get a laugh at some of these kashrus details.

And I like the line about the air and the water.

Thank you all so much for the investigation.

I once called star-k about that (COR) hashgacha on marinara sauce. they said it was good, not sure if that was just for that product, or the hechsher in general.

That hechsher is from the Kashrus council of Canada, and is generally accepted as reliable (at least here by our Vaad and the list they reference). I'm referring to the COR in a circle, I mean. I have no ideas what the numbers mean, I just know we're told the hechsher is okay.

The numbers tell you what plant they were produced in.

Boy that's funny.... Is the cor a good hechsher?
They are a huge organization and very Machmer about just about everything. I have never met anyone who does not accept them. Nearly every Shul in Toronto is under their hashgacha! All the colors of the rainbow of Judaism including frum chassisish to conservative.

Asking rabbi Eidlitz is a good way to check. He is totally apolitical and not affiliated with any specific hashgacha organization but is very much a specialist in kashrut, food prep and production and hashgacha.

I did some research a while ago on that hechsher and found out that it was the same as heart-k which is from california and is very reliable. you can call the star-k and double check. just to get an idea I also eat ou, ok, stark, chofk, scrollk.

I see I posted to this thread a long time ago. Since then I also found out that it's the "heart K' that supervises *this brand only*. The underline K in general is problematic.
