OK, I am trying to put together a small sholom zachar for my relatives this Shabbos, and all the recipes I found call for margarine..I only have shortening....

Can you use shortening as a sub for margarine?
any adjustments need to be made?

and anyone have good ideas for QUICK bars, cakes, cookies too....

yes but you need to add I think 3 tbsp water for each cup. I think

quick and easy brownies
preheat oven to 350
4 eggs
1 cup flour
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup oil
3/4 cup cocoa
pinch salt
vanilla
optional ideas: coffee, choc. chips,flavored coffee,nuts,etc.
oil pan or line with parchment paper. mix all ingredient together. bake 25 min. do not overbake

you can aslo substiture oil for margarine, its also MUCH healthier.

by the way, I started using smart balance margarine. its made from non hydrogenated oils.

yeah, I dont even use marg any more. I also use only whole wheat flour and brown sugar and not white sugar....its just all healthier in the long run!
