Update...
Finally got my act (and kids, and schedule) together enough to go out and buy heavy vinyl in a nice pattern. I covered the table in some saved sheets of Pesach paper, then duct-taped the vinyl on tightly and securely.
IT IS A DREAM... Thank G-d!!
I love it! It's fabulous! My kitchen table is CLEAN!!!! Glory be!
Next up: the kitchen floor. Because, as we all know, if the kids can't get the table dirty, they just shortcut straight to the floor :-)

Too late for you op, but this may help someone else with the same question. The flannel backed are useless as they get holes too easily and then wet underneath. What I use is vinyl tablecloths that are similar to flannel backed but much stronger. They are laminated on both sides, strong, easy to wipe, and are sold in frum stores. You just have to ask for the really good quality ones.
