Menorah competition

My kids have got a Menorah Competition in school. They are between 8-10 years old. Any ideas how they can craft a nice Menorah. However no food are allowed to be used.

I saw the coolest one on a blog it was not kosher as it was a tracing and drawing but so cute it was two children hands and the tips were
the flame with the thumbs together as the shamash.

There are tons and tons of things they can use. Do your best not to suggest, so that they can have the fun of making it all theirs.

Try brainstorming with them what things you have that could make a candle shape; something tall, something that you could stack. Write down all their ideas without comment, so that they get the experience of deciding what could work.

Then, brainstorm how you could put it together -- glue, tape, solder, chewing gum, whatever.

You can intervene at this point to be sure that their workspace is safe and likely to be effective, but try not to help unless necessary.

But if they are truly stuck, here are a few ideas I've seen:

Toilet paper rolls with paper towel roll shamash

Popsicle sticks or other wood

Wire or other metal, and magnets, or solder to hold it together

Any child's building material, as already mentioned

But really, I bet they'll be far more creative, and far more proud of their achievement if they come up with it themselves. Have fun!
