My 10 year old daughter has been sick with a fever on and off for the past 3 weeks. I have already brought her to the doctor twice. They tested for strep and the flu and both came back negative. The doctors said that it's just a virus and should just run its course. She's already missed plenty of days of school because of this. Anyone elses kids been sick like this? She's not currently running a fever, but she feels blah and has no appetite. The doctor told me that this winter has been terrible for kids. The secretary also told me that plenty of kids have been showing up sick and missing a decent amount of school. This isn't normal! I keep giving Advil for her fever/headache but otherwise I feel so helpless.

Push for a blood test. And when results come in, insist on getting a copy. Read the results yourself to see if you find any elevated levels that are in the "range of normal" that the doctor has dismissed.

Ask for blood work.
Ask the doctor if you should give her any extra vitamins.

I wouldn't jump to mono so fast. Some kids are sick most of the winter.
