Ds (7) came home in a normal enough mood but it soon devolved to fighting and bickering and being a grump. He teased snd hit his brother and then stole his yarmulke. I then offered him three choices: do homework, go upstairs to his room, or get x consequence (privilege revoked). He grumpily went to do his homework. He came back and tore his report card in half as well so he could express his anger. Is that normal? I’m thinking it’s probably within the range of normal because at age 7 he doesn’t yet understand the significance of the report card or the fact that it is reused three times during the year so ripping it is extremely disrespectful.
I just taped it together and didn’t say anything about it.
Eventually he had dinner and calmed down.

Thoughts?

At a calm time, I would say "I noticed you were really angry today. Can we talk about it".
Good for you for not making a big deal over the report card.
Very normal behavior for angry 7 yr old.
